John was a main character in the fiction Desperate, a fic that
explores the topics of Nuclear Fallout and how it affects anyone within it. The fic is in the form of a Journal with 3 stages.
Not much is mentioned about John except he had a wife, two children. Nothing is mentioned about his appearance, but one may
suspect he has dark bags under his eyes.
Based off of the Journal written, it's shown John is possibly a carring man for his family and would go through hell and back for
them, though it's implied he has cannibalized his family in the end of the journal.
John writes in his story he's witnessing a Nuclear Fallout and it first took place in Georgia. Whether it's specified it's where
he and his family live is unknown. He and his family find shelter. He goes into detail about a man who commited suicide
via jumping off a bridge. Despite not wanting to explain to his children about the man and why he took his own life, he was pressured
upsetting them.
Later on it's discovered in the shelter some people chose not to change their clothes, causing the radiation to spread within
the shelter for him, his family and other survivors. According to the journal, it was informed the effects of the radiation can
vary from person to person and may not show symptoms straight away.
Nuclear Winter comes. John and his family are only mentioned, implying the rest of the bystanders may have died. There wasn't
any food and it was cold for them, leaving them with two options, freeze to death doing nothing or starve to death. John goes to
search for food.
The journal ends with John letting the reader know he lost his family and didn't find any food, implying they died for nothing.
He writes about how "the meat is tender" and "They say when something dies, the meat becomes inedible", but writes he "knows the
truth", it implies he may have cannibalized his freezing family as an attempt to survive due to having no food to eat. It implies
he spirals into a form of self-contradiction and justifying his actions when he talks about how his family "was dead anyway
and he needed to survive".
The last part is left with him writing "If anyone is reading this, my name is John. Bury this with my body and may time wipe
this journal from history". Indicating he doesn't want anything within the journal to be known.
